GALAPAGOS DUCK flew in on Sunday 17th January to play music, not to quack. The new DUCK personnel [groups do change] have not lost the musicianship that we want to hear. From the opening Basie classic, they played great music. Rodney on drums sang a crowd pleasing “Killer Jo”, and an original from John showed Rodney's dexterity on drums as always. then followed the beautiful rendition of Cindy Lauper's “Time After Time”.
The first set ended with the hand clapping “Revelation”. New tenor sax member Adam Thomas blew the Sonny Rollins “St. Thomas” off the charts. What an outstanding player! John on bass - both acoustic and electric - just amazes every time he plays. Dave Spicer, not only a fine keyboard player but also sang his own Blues composition “I Don't Worry about Anything” [a great thought in today's world!!] The irrepressible Mal Wood played his heart out and gave us the fun that helps music be enjoyed.
The DUCK as always give their all in musicianship and entertainment. What more can you ask when the audience gave a standing applause in appreciation? GALPAPAGOS DUCK a musical institution.
