Review - Sweet Thunder Jazz Orchestra 21.3.21

On Sunday 21st March The Caloundra Power Boat Club swung with the roaring sounds of the celebrated SWEET THUNDER Jazz Orchestra.  A new arrangement of Miller's “In the Mood” followed by Ellington's “Take the A Train” set the standard for the great musical performance of big orchestra swing classics.  Vocals from drummer Rodney Ford and solid drum solos punched the group into favourites like “It Don't Mean a Thing”, Goodman’s “Don't Be That Way” and a rip roaring “Satin Doll” sung and swung by Rodney.  Another great new arrangement of Van Morrison's “Moon Dance” had our dancing group swinging and swaying. This great orchestra played in all 22 jazz standards, never once easing up. Great soloists were given well deserved applause. Time unfortunately was running out and SWEET THUNDER finished with a thunderous swinging arrangement of Basie's “Basie Talks”

Thank you SCJC for the Sweet Sounds from SWEET THUNDER.
