On Sunday 16th June the Sunshine Coast Jazz Club audience eagerly awaited Nicole Parker Brown and The Jazz Kings. The opening “Coming Home” set the standard for the afternoon. Peter sung and swung into Cole Porter's “Night and Day”, Jose [keyboards, guitar] played and sang a Michael Franks classic “Popsicle Toes”.
The Peggy Lee “Black Coffee” was soulfully sung by Nicole to nice applause. Rodney in his inimical style sang an upbeat “Misty” the Errol Garner masterpiece. Nicole's “Georgia” received a very warm applause and led into first set “Blue Drag”, a Django composition.
Time for a break, then POW Peter warbled straight into “I’m Still in Love With You”. Jose gave lovely jazz upturn of the Gerry and the Pacemakers “Ferry Cross the Mercy”. Gordon and Jose featured next on guitars with “Maria Elana”, Nicole and Peter dueted “You are My Sunshine”, and John on bass showed why he is so great with a classic solo, Tina Turner's “Rollin' on the Riverside”. “Let the Good Times Roll” brought back 60-70-80's memories.
Nicole and Peter performed another duet for a final “Comes Love”. An encore naturally, with the Fats Waller standard “Honeysuckle Rose”. Our sound man Ben as always keeps the sound perfect. A great musical afternoon from Jazz Royalty. Thanks Nicole and the Jazz Kings.
