The Power Boat Club on Sunday 18th August shook, rocked and rolled when THE WELLSWUNG DADDIES went into action. Vocalist Cherryn dressed in blue led the guys into a rip, roaring “King of Swing”. Wow what an intro!!!.
Cherryn quickly kept the action going with a Disney “I Wanna Be Like You”. Then the downright dirty voice of Jason knocked out the Louis Jordan “Caldonia”.
How about those highflying trumpet cadenzas from Mike. Cherryn's vocal on “C'est Magnifique” was a gem. Took us back to Gay Paree. “In The Evening” a duet from Cherryn and Jason received a well-deserved applause.
We drove down “Route 66” an all-time favourite. Then the Cab Calloway “Minnie the Moocher” tantalised the audience into Cab's Hi De Hi De Ho nonsensical vocal!!. Yep, we loved it.!! The swing dancers were in good form!! Ray Charles “Hit The Road Jack” rocked and swung like crazy when Cherryn and Jason went into top gear vocals.
So many top performances from Cherryn and Jason on vocals, Derek on Trombone, Eddie on Saxes, High Note Mike on trumpet, the rhythm guys, Steve brilliant on guitar, Rex on drums keeping the beat nice and steady, Dan tinkling those black and whites on the keyboard, Justin surely the best slap bassist in the biz.
Could you not forget “Lady Marmalade” to finish. When only the best will do then THE WELLSWUNG DADDIES are the best!! Thank you Cherryn and guys, a great swingin' rockin' afternoon.
